The Kelsey Museum holds more than 100,000 ancient and medieval artifacts from the Mediterranean and the Near East. About 45,000 of them are everyday objects from Karanis, a town in Roman Egypt that university teams dug in the 1920s and 1930s. A room in the 2009 Upjohn Exhibit Wing shows full watercolor copies of the Villa of the Mysteries murals from Pompeii. The museum sits in Newberry Hall, an 1891 stone building on State Street at the edge of the central campus.
