About Kettle Moraine Low Prairie State Natural Area

This 250-acre State Natural Area sits near the center of the Scuppernong Basin in the glacial plain of southeastern Wisconsin. Its northern part holds wet prairie and fen plants, including the uncommon Ohio goldenrod, while wet-mesic prairie grows toward the Scuppernong River to the south. Small upland islands contain recovering oak opening and dry-mesic prairie. The site shelters rare plants and animals. The DNR owns it, and it was designated a State Natural Area in 1971. Expect no facilities such as restrooms or picnic areas. Visitors can hike, hunt, fish, cross-country ski, and watch wildlife, while camping, collecting, drones, and geocaching are prohibited.
