Landsford Canal State Park sits along the Catawba River and protects remnants of a canal system built to make the river passable for commercial boats. Visitors can walk a trail past the canal structures, including a stretch where they pass between tall stone walls. The park is also known for a large population of rocky shoals spider lilies, which bloom in late spring. Picnicking, fishing, paddling, and wildlife watching are popular here, and a former lock keeper's house holds an interpretive museum. Pets are welcome on leash in most outdoor areas, and the park does not rent boats, so paddlers must bring their own.
