Lassen Volcanic National Park
Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center, 21820 Lassen National Park Hwy · Mineral, CA
Why you should go…
Lassen is one of the few places where all four types of volcano, plug dome, shield, cinder cone and stratovolcano, sit in one park. Lassen Peak erupted in a series of blasts from May 1914 to 1917, and hot water still shapes the land around steaming fumaroles. Sulphur Works is the most easily reached hydrothermal area, while Bumpass Hell is a 3-mile round-trip hike. The park has more than 150 miles of trails and gets about 30 feet of snow a year.
