75 King Street, St. Augustine, FL 32084 · St. Augustine, FL
Henry Flagler built the Hotel Alcazar in 1887 for wealthy winter visitors arriving on his railroad, and it is one of the earliest poured concrete buildings in the world. The hotel closed in 1932, and Chicago publisher Otto Lightner bought it in 1947 to show his collections; the museum opened in 1948. Three floors hold Gilded Age glass and furniture, a Victorian science room with shells, minerals and a small mummy, and a room of player pianos and orchestrions. The courtyard has palms and a stone bridge over a koi pond. Adults pay $20 and children 11 and under get in free.
