About St. Augustine National Cemetery

This Veterans Affairs cemetery sits in the oldest city in the nation and grew out of a post burial ground tied to the Spanish and military history of the site. Its best-known feature is the Dade Monument, three coquina pyramids that hold remains of soldiers killed in the Florida Indian Wars. Visitors can also see a coquina wall, a superintendent's lodge built in a Spanish style, and a coquina rostrum used for official ceremonies. The cemetery is closed to new burials except for certain subsequent interments in existing graves.
