Logan Square, usually called Logan Circle, is one of the five squares in William Penn's 1684 plan for Philadelphia, renamed in 1825 for statesman James Logan. In the 1910s it was reshaped into a circle on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, modeled on the Place de la Concorde in Paris. At the center is the Swann Memorial Fountain, made in 1924 by Alexander Stirling Calder, whose three bronze figures stand for the Delaware, the Schuylkill and the Wissahickon. The Franklin Institute, the Academy of Natural Sciences, the Parkway Central Library and the Cathedral Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul all face the square.
