The Old Bakery and Emporium stands on Congress Avenue in downtown Austin, near the Capitol. Built in 1876, it housed the city's first bakery and helped anchor the early business district. Today the building holds an artisan shop filled with local handmade goods, a gallery showing work by local artists aged 50 and over, and a history exhibit on Austin's immigrant past through the Lundberg-Maerki Historical Collection. Visitors can also get Visitor Center information there. A mural called Generational Ties, painted by Ruben Esquivel, blends Indigenous and Swedish heritage. The plaza, Pat Crow Memorial Plaza, is available for public rental during business hours.
