About Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden

Mesker Park Zoo opened in 1928 on Evansville's northwest side and was one of the first zoos in the country to use moats instead of bars. Amazonia, an indoor rainforest that opened in 2008, holds jaguars, tapirs, howler monkeys and free-flying birds. The African Rift area has giraffes, zebras and rhinos, Humboldt penguins arrived in 2021, and the Children's Enchanted Forest has a petting zoo and play areas. A carousel and a 1:3 scale Santa Maria replica, once a monkey exhibit, are also on the grounds. Summer admission is $11 for adults and $10 for children 3 to 12.
