Cass Gilbert designed this 1905 statehouse crowned by one of the world's largest self-supported marble domes, second only to St. Peter's Basilica. Above the entrance gleams the gilded Quadriga, "The Progress of the State," with its four gold-covered horses. Free 45-minute guided tours leave from Room 126 at the top of the hour, taking in murals, marble staircases, and the legislative chambers; in warmer months, tours often include a rooftop visit for a close-up of the Quadriga itself.
