This Forest Service monument covers 54,822 acres of lakes, lava flows and volcanic features in the Deschutes National Forest. Start at Lava Lands Visitor Center, where the Trail of Molten Land crosses a lava flow and a summer shuttle climbs Lava Butte. Farther south you can walk into the mile-long Lava River Cave, see tree molds at Lava Cast Forest, and drive into the caldera for Paulina Lake, East Lake and the 700-acre Big Obsidian Flow.
