Old Prairie Town sits in Topeka and recreates a nineteenth-century village. Its centerpiece is a replica of an 1854 log cabin where pioneer and wheelwright Anthony Ward raised his family while building the Ward-Meade mansion, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors can walk through town square buildings such as a schoolhouse, general store, drug store, church, livery stable, and depot. Adjacent to the mansion, a 2.5-acre botanical garden offers winding paths past display gardens, an Asian garden, water features, and seasonal tulips and daylilies. Tours run on a posted schedule, and the site also hosts school groups and weddings.
