Pawtuckaway State Park spans about 5,500 acres around Pawtuckaway Lake and the nearby Pawtuckaway Mountains. Visitors can swim at a sizable family beach, rent boats, and paddle the lake. The park's trail network reaches a fire tower on South Mountain, a marsh where wildlife such as beavers, deer, and herons can be spotted, and a boulder field of glacial erratics that is popular with climbers. The surrounding rocky range traces an ancient volcanic ring dike. A wooded campground along the shore offers campsites and a few cabins, and leashed pets are welcome outside the beach area.
