Pyramid Lake
Pyramid Lake Museum and Visitors Center, 709 State St · Nixon, NV
Why you should go…
Pyramid Lake lies about 40 miles northeast of Reno, entirely within the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Reservation, and stretches roughly 27 miles long and 11 miles wide. Its name comes from a pyramid-shaped tufa island near the southeastern shore. Anglers come for Lahontan cutthroat trout, and visitors also kayak, paddleboard, hike and camp. A tribal permit is required, and areas including Anaho Island, the Needles and the Pyramid itself are closed to the public.
