About Rittenhouse Square

Rittenhouse Square is a public green space in Center City Philadelphia that anchors the surrounding Rittenhouse neighborhood. It is one of five open-space parks laid out in the late 1600s under William Penn and his surveyor. The square forms part of the Rittenhouse-Fitler Historic District together with Fitler Square. It is part of the Fairmount Park System and is cared for in partnership with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, alongside a nonprofit Friends group focused on preservation, protection, and beautification.
