About Sarah P. Duke Gardens

Sarah P. Duke Gardens is a botanic garden in the middle of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Its stated mission centers on learning, wellness, and community. The grounds cover roughly 55 acres of landscaped and wooded land, with about 5 miles of walkways and allées. The garden is organized into four sections: the Historic Core and Terraces, the Blomquist Garden of Native Plants, the Culberson Asiatic Arboretum, and the Doris Duke Center Gardens. Visitors can join tours, seasonal events, and family or adult programs, and the outdoor areas are open to walk through at no charge. The garden also honors Sarah Pearson Angier Duke, mother of Mary Duke Biddle and wife of Benjamin N. Duke, a major Duke University benefactor.
