About Bennett Place State Historic Site

In April 1865 Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston and Union General William T. Sherman met at James and Nancy Bennett's farm, and on April 26 they signed the surrender of Confederate armies in the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida. The reconstructed farmhouse, kitchen and smokehouse show how an ordinary farm family lived. A visitor center has three rooms of exhibits and a short film. Entry is free; guided tours at 9:45 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. cost $4 for adults.
