About Seneca Creek State Park

Managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, this Montgomery County park stretches along about 14 miles of Seneca Creek as the creek flows toward the Potomac River. Clopper Lake, a 90-acre lake in the day-use area, supports small self-launched watercraft and rental canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats, though swimming is not allowed. More than 50 miles of trails serve hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders, with the Schaeffer Farm network a popular choice for riders. Visitors can also play a 27-hole disc golf course, picnic at several groves, and explore historic sites such as a restored 19th-century cabin, Black Rock Mill, and the Schwartz Peony Garden. The park was also a filming location for The Blair Witch Project in 1997.
