Rochester's zoo has shown animals in Seneca Park, a Frederick Law Olmsted design along the Genesee River, since 1894. Its 20 acres hold more than 90 species, and the A Step Into Africa area, opened in 2012, has African elephants, olive baboons and lions. A seasonal tram runs from the Savanna Outpost for a small fee. Winter gate admission is $14 for adults, and buying online saves $2 per ticket. The zoo is open 362 days a year.
