Rochester, NY
Durand Eastman Park sits on the Lake Ontario shoreline in the northern part of Rochester, close to the Irondequoit border. The county says it was dedicated in 1909 and now covers 977 acres. Visitors find roughly five thousand feet of lakefront, steep wooded slopes, valleys, small lakes, and scenic overlooks. Cross-country skiers use groomed golf cart paths in winter. Hikers can choose among several color-coded trails, including a lakeside route popular for watching birds during migration. The park also has a Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course, a playground, geocaching, and fishing under state rules. Eight shelters and one lodge are available to rent. Wikipedia notes that Monroe County Parks administers the park under agreements with the City of Rochester and the Town of Irondequoit.
