Sequoia National Park, established in 1890, protects groves of giant sequoias and high mountain country that includes Mount Whitney. In the Giant Forest, a 0.8-mile round-trip trail leads to the base of the General Sherman Tree, the largest tree on Earth by volume. You can climb the 351-step stairway up Moro Rock for wide views, or join a guided tour of Crystal Cave. The Generals Highway links the park to neighboring Kings Canyon.
