About Texas Military Forces Museum

The museum occupies a 45,000-square-foot building and covers the story of Texas militia and volunteer units from early colonial musters through the creation of the National Guard in 1903. Later galleries follow the Texas Army and Air National Guard and the Texas State Guard through peacetime and wartime service. Exhibits combine uniforms, weapons, equipment, photographs, film, music, battle dioramas, and full-scale environments. The museum sits on an active military post, so visitors 18 and older must be cleared at the Visitor Control Center before entering. Living history programs, battle reenactments, and special events are held throughout the year, and the museum's archives are available by appointment.
