Torreya State Park covers 13,735 acres of bluffs, ravines and river swamp along the Apalachicola River, 13 miles north of Bristol, with some of the hilliest ground in Florida. It is named for the Florida nutmeg, a critically endangered tree that grows wild only along these east-bank bluffs. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the park in the 1930s and moved the 1849 Gregory House across the river, where you can tour it for a small fee. The Apalachicola River Bluffs Trail is a National Recreation Trail, and Civil War gun pits remain on a bluff. The park also has a campground.
