About Tudor Place

Tudor Place is a historic house and garden in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It preserves the history of six generations of the family descended from Martha Washington, along with the enslaved and free people who lived and labored on the property. The house is a well-known example of Federal-period architecture in the capital. The museum holds more than 18,000 decorative objects, including a large group of Washington family items that is the biggest of its kind outside Mount Vernon. The grounds cover about five and a half acres and include a garden with its own history and seasonal bloom calendar. The site also runs tours, education programs, and lectures, and it addresses its history of slavery directly.
