The cemetery sits on about 6.7 acres at Hospital Point, with views over the Severn River and College Creek. It serves as the burial place for more than 6,000 people. It was established in 1868, when the Naval Academy obtained land called Strawberry Hill across the creek from the campus, a move tied to postwar expansion after the Civil War. The site includes sections on the Civil War, both world wars, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the War on Terror, plus monuments and a Medal of Honor section.
