About USS Kidd Veterans Museum

The USS Kidd Veterans Museum stands on the Baton Rouge riverfront next to the berth of USS Kidd, a Fletcher-class destroyer named for Rear Admiral Isaac C. Kidd, who died aboard USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor. Commissioned in 1943, she earned eight battle stars in World War II, and a kamikaze hit off Okinawa on April 11, 1945 killed 38 of her crew. She has been a museum here since 1982 and rests in a cradle built for river swings of up to 40 feet. The museum shows naval and veteran artifacts, a wardroom restored to its WWII look and a pirates exhibit, and costs $8 while the ship is away.
