About USS Slater

USS Slater is a former World War II destroyer escort docked on the Hudson River in Albany, New York. The Destroyer Escort Historical Museum owns and runs the ship as a nonprofit. The homepage says its restoration has brought the vessel back to its earlier condition. Visitors can take guided tours, and the museum also hosts youth-group overnight camping and naval reunions. The site describes the ship as the only one of its class still afloat in the United States. Its history pages say these ships escorted Atlantic convoys, guarded Pacific task forces, and later served in the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Cold War.
