The Very Large Array is a radio astronomy observatory run by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory on the Plains of San Agustin in New Mexico, about 50 miles west of Socorro. Its visitor center includes a documentary narrated by Jodie Foster, exhibits on radio astronomy, a gift shop and a half-mile self-guided walking trail leading to the base of the antenna dishes. The site is open to the public daily from 9am to 4pm, closed only on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
