The Belair Stable Museum sits on Belair Drive in Bowie and is run by the City of Bowie. Its story begins in the 1740s, when Governor Samuel Ogle and Colonel Benjamin Tasker brought Thoroughbred horses to the Belair estate, including the mare Selima. The stable itself was built in 1907 by William Woodward and became part of the famous Belair Stud operation, which produced champions through the 1920s to the 1950s, among them Gallant Fox, Omaha, and Nashua. Exhibits trace roughly two centuries of racing history at the property and also cover the farm's other agricultural work. Visitors can also see a restored 1923 stablemaster's living quarters. Self-guided visits are free, and private guided tours are available for groups.
