A small state park on a hill near Belmont, Wisconsin, known for wide views from its summit and run by a local civic club.
Belmont, WI
Belmont Mound State Park protects a hill whose name comes from French and roughly means beautiful mountain. The summit sits about 1,400 feet above sea level and offers broad views of the surrounding countryside. The Belmont Lions Club operates the park rather than the state's Department of Natural Resources. Wisconsin's First Capitol historic site lies about half a mile west, so visitors can pair the two stops. The hill is an outlier of the Niagara Escarpment and sits in the Driftless Area, a region the glaciers never flattened.
