About Big Sugar Creek State Park

Big Sugar Creek State Park covers more than 2,000 acres in McDonald County in southwest Missouri. Its terrain includes shaded upland forest, sunny grassy openings, and rocky ledges, and it shelters uncommon shrubs and trees. Visitors can hike a roughly three-mile trail through the park. Plants such as the Ozark chinquapin and low prickly pear cactus grow here, and wildlife includes armadillos and scarlet tanagers. Much of the park is designated as the Elk River Breaks Natural Area.
