About Buckhorn Island State Park

Buckhorn Island State Park protects 895 acres of marsh, meadows and woods, the last remnant of the wetlands that once lined the Niagara River. It is classified as a park preserve, and visitors can walk the nature trails, hike, bike, kayak, canoe, fish and cross-country ski or snowshoe. It is a bird conservation area where least bitterns, northern harriers, common terns and sedge wrens are found, and gulls gather on the river in winter. Restoration work is adding trails, overlooks and bird blinds. There are no restrooms in the park.
