About Cole's Hill

Cole's Hill rises from Plymouth Bay right across the street from Plymouth Rock, and the Pilgrims buried their dead here in the winter of 1620 to 1621, when 52 of 102 settlers died. A granite sarcophagus from 1920 holds remains found on the hill, and Cyrus Dallin's statue of the Wampanoag sachem Massasoit looks out over the water. Paths and a granite staircase from Water Street lead to the top. It is a public park and a National Historic Landmark.
