Birdcraft is a small private sanctuary in Fairfield run by the Connecticut Audubon Society. Mabel Osgood Wright created it in 1914 as a refuge for migrating and resident birds. Its grounds include a short loop trail with a boardwalk around a shallow pond, set among mixed hardwood forest and thickets. Over 150 bird species have been recorded there, and the site is also a federally licensed bird banding station. Visitors should keep away from the banding nets and leave any birds caught in them alone. The museum is open on set weekdays and weekends, while the trails are open at all hours of daylight.
