About Dahlonega Gold Museum State Historic Site

Housed in the Lumpkin County Courthouse on the town square, this state historic site explores the gold rush that drew prospectors to north Georgia decades before California's famous rush. Exhibits include a set of rare gold coins from the local U.S. Branch Mint, a large gold nugget, and a hydraulic cannon once used for mining. Visitors can also see historic courtroom details such as old chapel seating and the judge's chambers, and watch a short film. Some second-floor exhibits are not wheelchair accessible because of historic preservation rules.
