About Davis Mountains State Park

Davis Mountains State Park covers 2,709 acres of high desert near Fort Davis, sitting between 5,000 and 6,000 feet, so it runs cooler and wetter than the desert around it. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the five-mile Skyline Drive with its stone overlook shelter and the pueblo-style Indian Lodge, a 39-room hotel with a restaurant that reopened in 2025 after renovation. Hikers can take the 4.5-mile Skyline Drive Trail or the CCC trail linking to Fort Davis National Historic Site, and riders have 11 miles of horse trails. Day use is $6 per adult, and reservations are advised because the park often fills.
