101 Lt. Flipper Dr., Fort Davis, TX 79734 · Fort Davis, TX
This National Park Service site preserves a frontier military post that operated from 1854 to 1891 in the Davis Mountains. The post guarded travelers, mail coaches, and freight wagons along routes through the Trans-Pecos region. Visitors can start at the visitor center with a short orientation film, then walk among restored buildings furnished to look as they did in the 1880s. Demonstrations and special events recreate daily life at the fort, and the site also offers hiking trails through the surrounding sky island habitat.
