About Edith J. Carrier Arboretum

The Edith J. Carrier Arboretum sits on the James Madison University campus in Harrisonburg. Its grounds and trails are open to the public at no charge every day, from dawn until dusk. Visitors can explore plant collections, follow trails, and enjoy a StoryWalk where book pages are posted along a path. The Frances Plecker Education Center, which handles visitor information and programs, keeps weekday hours. The arboretum announced in April 2026 that it would grow from 63 to 110 acres, with a planned reforestation effort on East Campus.
