Seneca Rocks

Seneca Rocks Discovery Center, 13 Roy Gap Rd · Seneca Rocks, WV

Why you should go…

Seneca Rocks is a crag of Tuscarora quartzite, made of sand laid down about 440 million years ago, that rises nearly 900 feet above the creek in the Monongahela National Forest. Climbers have scaled it since 1935, and it now holds more than 375 mapped routes. The Army's 10th Mountain Division trained here in 1943 and 1944. At the base, the Seneca Rocks Discovery Center has exhibits on the area's history, natural features and wildlife, with a view of the wall.
