About Fort Bliss National Cemetery

Fort Bliss National Cemetery sits beside the Fort Bliss Army post in central El Paso, with the Franklin Mountains rising to the west. The Department of Veterans Affairs runs the cemetery, which has a stone gate, a Spanish Revival lodge, and a granite rostrum. In 2007 it became the first national cemetery converted to xeriscape, using decomposed granite in place of grass. Its burials include Medal of Honor recipients, Buffalo Soldiers, Chinese airmen who trained at the fort, and enemy prisoners of war from World War II. Visitors can use a 24-hour information kiosk near the main gate to locate a grave.
