About George Washington Birthplace National Monument

This national monument covers about 551 acres on Virginia's Northern Neck, near where Popes Creek meets the Potomac River. Visitors can learn about the Washington family, who occupied the land for seven generations, and about the birth of George Washington in 1732. The site also played a role in early commemorations of Washington, including efforts tied to the 1932 bicentennial of his birth. Visitors can explore the Memorial House Museum, a colonial revival kitchen, a historic area, and trails and shoreline along the river.
