Westmoreland State Park sits along the Potomac River on the Northern Neck peninsula. Visitors can take in views from Horsehead Cliffs, search the shoreline for ancient shark teeth, and watch for bald eagles and other waterbirds. The park offers hiking and biking trails, fishing from a pier and breakwaters, a boat ramp, kayak trips, and campgrounds. Its cabins are closed for renovation, with a projected reopening in 2027. Civilian Conservation Corps crews built much of the park in the 1930s, and it is one of Virginia's original state parks.
