About Hidden Lake Gardens

Hidden Lake Gardens is a 755-acre botanical garden and arboretum run by Michigan State University in the Irish Hills of southeast Michigan. Harry Fee began planting it in 1926 and gave it to the university in 1945. It has more than 9 miles of hiking trails, a conservatory with tropical and arid domes, the Harper collection of about 600 rare and dwarf conifers, a hillside with more than 700 kinds of hosta and a large bonsai courtyard. The Canopy Walk runs over 700 feet and reaches 65 feet above the ground on a wheelchair-friendly boardwalk and suspension bridge.
