Horseshoe Bend

US Highway 89 between mile markers 544 and 545 · Page, AZ

Why you should go…

Horseshoe Bend is a 270-degree curve of the Colorado River, seen from an overlook about 1,000 feet above the water inside Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. From the parking lot off US Highway 89, an accessible trail leads 1.5 miles round trip to the rim. The viewing platform has railings, but the trail does not, and there is no water along the way. The City of Page runs the parking lot and charges a fee that national park passes do not cover.

Good to know

General sightseeing guidance

Habits that pay off across this whole category, not rules for this one venue. Always check the official site for the specifics.

  • The forecast is part of the ticket

Haze, low cloud, and rain flatten a view. Clear-day visits are worth rearranging your plans for.

  • Golden hour sells out first

Sunset slots at observation decks and cruises are the first to go, so book those further ahead.

  • Dress a layer warmer

It is always breezier up high and out on the water than it feels at street level.

  • Timed entry is common

Plenty of landmarks release tickets in windows rather than at the door, so check before you walk over.
