Vermilion Cliffs National Monument

House Rock Valley Rd (BLM 1065), off US-89A · Marble Canyon, AZ

Why you should go…

Vermilion Cliffs is a remote 280,000-acre monument run by the Bureau of Land Management, taking in the Paria Plateau, Coyote Buttes, Paria Canyon and cliffs that rise as much as 3,000 feet. There are no visitor centers or paved roads inside it, and most roads need a high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle because of deep sand. Permits are required for Coyote Buttes North, home of The Wave, for Coyote Buttes South and for overnight trips in Paria Canyon. Captive-bred California condors are released here each year.
