Indian Cave State Park lies along the Missouri River in the southeast corner of Nebraska, about ten miles south of Brownville. It is named for a large sandstone cave whose walls carry prehistoric petroglyphs, some thought to be several thousand years old. The park also keeps a partly rebuilt St. Deroin, a village founded in 1853 on the former Nemaha Half-Breed Reservation. There are 22 miles of hiking and biking trails and 16 miles of horse trails through hardwood forest with river views, plus camping, fishing and boat access to the river. The woods are known for fall color, and the park hosts a Haunted Hollow event each October.
