Jamaica State Park covers 772 acres along a bend of the West River, about a half mile from the center of Jamaica. It opened to the public in 1969. The former bed of the West River Railroad now forms a trail that follows the river toward Ball Mountain Dam. Visitors can camp, hike more than five miles of maintained trails, swim at the Salmon Hole, fish for trout and small mouth bass, and picnic by the river. The park is also a paddling hub during scheduled whitewater releases from the dam. Hamilton Falls State Natural Area lies a few miles away and is reached by a longer hike, and swimming there is dangerous.
