Little Rock National Cemetery sits about two miles southeast of the Arkansas state capitol and is run by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. It began in 1868 as a place to gather Union dead from across Arkansas and later gained a Confederate section. Visitors can see the Minnesota Monument and the marble Confederate Monument, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The cemetery is closed to new interments except for certain subsequent burials, and it has a Medal of Honor recipient and other notable people buried within its grounds.
