About Lyndale Park

Lyndale Park sits beside Lake Harriet in the East Harriet neighborhood and is part of the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes Regional Park. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board manages it. The land was donated by William and Caroline King in the 1890s, and the park grew into a showcase for gardens under superintendent Theodore Wirth and horticulturist Louis Boeglin. Visitors come for the rose garden, the perennial and annual gardens, the fountains, and the Roberts Bird Sanctuary. The Peace Garden, created on the site of an earlier rock garden, honors peace with a wooden bridge, a peace pole, and a bronze sculpture of an origami crane. The park also hosts weddings and special events and has a nearby recreation center.
