McPherson Square fills an entire city block in northwest Washington, DC, bordered by K, I, and 15th Streets. Its layout follows the former Vermont Avenue corridor, with walks leading to a central plaza. A 12-foot bronze statue of Union General James B. McPherson, mounted on a horse, stands on a granite pedestal at the center. Large deciduous trees line the edges, and local workers, commuters, and visitors gather here, especially at lunch. The square is also a short walk from the McPherson Square Metro station.
